Young Girl at Tonli Sap Lake

Seam Reap, Cambodia
What a beautiful face!  But she should not be here, she should be at school.  Here, she was peddling what was in front of her, to tourists at the largest fresh water lake in South-east Asia, the Tonli Sap Lake.  Children were everywhere, they were selling books, souvenirs, fruit, drinks, anything.  They even simply begged.  In this country that had been closed to the outside world for the longest period of time fighting a civil war, opening up to the tourist could be the best thing that could have ever happened to these children, at least they could be put to some "productive" use.  I couldn't imagine what they would be doing if they were not here, flocking to the tourist, hoping to get lucky with a dollar or two.  It ached my heart and I wasn't sure if I should help them or not.  If they were getting help, they likely would have to continue with this.  If they were not getting help, I wasn't sure of how else they would be treated.
