The little pond from the sky

Baishan, Changchun
This picture is not doing this crater lake any justice -- it is about 5km across!  I was using too wide a lens to take in too much of everything into the picture, but I really don't know how to do this picture in another way.  If I use a more "regular" lens, I would not even be able to show that this is a crater lake, with all the barren mountain around.  I could not recede to a further-away vantage point, I had to stand on the rim of the volcano (yes, it is a sleeping volcano).  Luckily the sky was not just plain blue sky, it did provide a little bit of light and shadow in the picture.  No, it would be very difficult to get there again some other time, I'm not that type of deep pocketed photographer, I'm just a serious amateur.  (actually during a period of 3 days, I was up there 3 times, but to different sides of the crater).
Now I am thinking HDR (I know, it is a love-it or hate-it technology, depending on taste).
